Vidic, Berbatov & the Christie Bear - 2-Apr-2009
Anybody in business will be familiar with receiving requests for help from charities and being involved in Mountain Rescue (www.kmrt.org.uk) I also see the other side – we are currently trying to raise £25,000 to expand our current team headquarters. However the phone call on the morning in question came from one of the local hospitals, The Christie (one of Europe’s largest cancer treatment centres). To launch their new supporters club, they had managed to secure two Manchester United Players (Nemanja Vidic and Dimitar Berbatov)to kick a football at a wall, which would collapse with an explosion of glitter. Initially we had been asked about fireworks, however the event, due to take place during the mid morning Manchester sun was within about five metres of the Christie Bear and two premier league footballers. Even the most basic safety precautions hint towards the idea of keeping jets of white hot sparks away large nylon bears, premier league stars and a good scattering of the national press. Right on cue, as the bear failed to save the goal, the ball “knocked over the wall” and 6kgs of red, white and blue glitter exploded into the air. http://www.christies.org/news/2009/190309.aspxChristie Hospital Pyro
